A futuristic leap in personal transport may finally be taking off. Slovak firm Klein Vision has announced plans to launch its groundbreaking AirCar in early 2026—potentially becoming the first commercially available flying car in nearly eight decades.

After decades of sci-fi dreams and abandoned prototypes, the AirCar is edging closer to mainstream viability. Engineered by designer and founder Stefan Klein, the dual-mode vehicle can switch from road to air in under two minutes. Fitted with a 280-horsepower engine, the vehicle can soar through the skies at 250 km/h with a flight range of around 1,000 kilometres, rivalling the practicality of regional flights.

The AirCar has already racked up more than 170 flight hours and over 500 takeoffs and landings, earning it a Certificate of Airworthiness from the Slovak Transport Authority in 2021—a significant regulatory hurdle cleared.

Anton Zajac, co-founder of Klein Vision, says the vehicle isn’t just a tech marvel—it’s a symbol of the future. “The AirCar is a fusion of certified aviation engineering and advanced automotive design,” he said. “We’re not just witnessing the future of transportation—we’re engineering it.”

Zajac also pointed to the explosive growth of the global air mobility sector, projected to hit $162 billion by 2034. Klein Vision’s prototype, expected to debut this year, aims to position the company as a leader in this high-flying race.

But while the dream is tantalising, the reality may remain exclusive—for now. With a price tag between $800,000 and $1 million, the AirCar is more Bugatti than Toyota, catering to a clientele that values cutting-edge innovation as much as convenience.

Even with the tech ticking boxes, regulatory airspace integration, infrastructure development and safety frameworks must evolve before we see traffic jams taking off vertically.

Still, the countdown is on. And if Klein Vision clears the final hurdles, the age of the flying car might finally get off the ground.
