The Monaco Grand Prix hasn’t even started, but the extravagance is already making headlines. Moored in the heart of Port Hercules, a £30 million superyacht has been spotted carrying an ultra-rare McLaren Solus GT – a £3 million hypercar that’s turning heads even in a city used to seeing the world’s most expensive toys.
Only 25 McLaren Solus GTs exist worldwide, making this single-seater hypercar one of the rarest on the planet. Powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine capable of revving beyond 10,000rpm, the Solus GT delivers more than 840PS and 1,200kg of downforce — performance specs that echo the experience of a Formula 1 car. McLaren describes it as the closest most people will ever get to driving a real F1 vehicle.
But why park it on a yacht? Simple — in Monaco, the Formula 1 lifestyle isn’t just about racing. It’s about spectacle. And putting a race-spec McLaren on top of a luxury yacht is the kind of visual stunt that epitomises the glamour and wealth associated with the Monaco Grand Prix.
The yacht in question is the M/Y Sarastar, previously sold for €35 million and now available to charter for around $348,000 per week. The same group is believed to have pulled a similar stunt last year, hoisting a $3 million Bugatti onto a yacht during the Grand Prix weekend.
With drivers like Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen living in Monaco, and one-third of the principality’s population reportedly millionaires, it’s no surprise that the Monaco Grand Prix has become the ultimate showcase for the ultra-wealthy.
As the 2025 F1 Monaco Grand Prix gets underway, fans can expect more than just on-track drama. From trackside superyachts to priceless hypercars, the Monaco GP continues to be the most luxurious event on the Formula 1 calendar.
